- 1995
- Basic specifications for IPv6 were established by IETF (one drafter was a NTT Research Institute staff member).
- 1996
- NTT Research Institute began operating one of the world's largest IPv6 trial networks.
- 1997
- CICNet and NWNet (current name Verio) began operating a major POP of 6bone.
- 1999
- NTT Com became Japan's first commercial ISP to acquire sTLA.
- 1999
- NTT Com began its OCN IPv6 Tunneling trial service with more than 200 subscribers of the OCN service.
- 2000
- NTT MCL began offering the world's first commercial IPv6 IX service through its location in San Jose, U.S.A.
- 2000
- NTT Europe began IPv6 trial service.

- NTT Com began IPv6 Gateway Service, an international transit service for ISPs and data centers.

- NTT Com launched OCN IPv6 Tunneling Service, the world's first full-scale commercial IPv6 service and available nationwide in Japan.

- NTT Com became a key member in national projects such as the Home Appliance Trials in Japan and 6NET in the EU.

- NTT Com began IPv6 HOTSPOT trials for its WLAN trial service called HI-FIBE.

- INTERNET MULTIFEED began JPNAP6, a distributed Internet exchange service supporting IPv6.

- NTT Com began OCN ADSL Service IPv6 Dual (A), a broadband IPv6/IPv4 dual stack service with a Plug & Play function.
